This Tribute appeared on the back page of the
Order of Service of Praise and Thanksgiving
for the Life of Lilian May Wheadon
5th May 1933 ~ 12th March 2009
held at Boscombe Baptist Church
on Monday, 23rd March 2009 at 11am

May was born on 5th May 1933 in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, and moved to England just before the Second World War, where she first lived in Birkenhead on the Wirral (now Merseyside), moved to Wolverhampton for a time, then returned to Birkenhead. She met her husband, Denis, in the late 1940’s at Abingdon, Berkshire (now Oxfordshire) where he was serving with the RAF and she was working in a Forces Canteen on the Air Base. They were married in 1951 in Higher Tranmere, Birkenhead, and the following year May, with her husband, entered a Theological College in London where they trained for the ministry. They were ordained in 1955, and until their official retirement in 1993 served the Lord in pastoral ministry in places as far apart as Co. Durham, Yorkshire, London and Norfolk, and for the last twenty-two years of their working lives in Bournemouth as Proprietors of the Undercliff Christian Hotel overlooking Boscombe Pier. Here May was fully involved with a pastoral, counselling and hospitality ministry. Following retirement May, with her husband, became actively involved in the life of Boscombe Baptist Church until in 1999 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and her health began to deteriorate. It eventually became necessary for May to be admitted to a local nursing home specialising in the care of dementia cases in a loving and secure environment. She lived there for three and a half years until she went to be with her Lord on the morning of Thursday 12th  March 2009.

In paying tribute to his dearest May as a loving and loyal Wife for almost 58 years, as a devoted and caring Mother to Ian and Anong, Grandma to Anita, and Sister to Stacia and Evie, Denis also wishes to acknowledge his eternal gratitude to Richard and Yasmin (Proprietors), Dave (Manager) and all the Staff at Highfield Manor Nursing Home in Branksome Wood Road for all the love and care lavished on May during her time at the Home. Thank you and God bless you.

Lilian May Wheadon

A Personal Tribute

Although the Pen4God Website is devoted to a Global Ministry, I acknowledge that I am where I am today because of the influence and support of my dear Wife, May, for almost 58 years, so in that sense she is part  of this ministry, and therefore this Personal Tribute has a rightful place on this website.

MORE TRIBUTES
