Builders Urgently Needed!
A challenge to become builders who are prepared to work together - together with God and together with each other - because togetherness is the key! Builders whose hearts have been moved by God, who are prepared to build the house of the Lord; people who are prepared to work with all their hearts, building according to God’s blueprint.

Problems with Prayer?
Practical words of encouragement for those who may have come to a point in their life where they find it difficult to pray, even to the extent of finding it impossible? Although still believing in God, and continuing to acknowledge Jesus as their Saviour and Lord, they still find it very difficult if not impossible to communicate with their Heavenly Father.

What is an Elder?
The function of an Elder is the spiritual care and oversight of the Lord’s people within a local Fellowship. But there is more to it than this. So, exclusively from the Word of God we week to answer in this article the important question, what is an Elder?

www.local-church.org
Using the URL [website address] of a local Christian Church with its own Website as an “attention grabber”, and comparing that “Church” with the 1st Century Church, three characteristics stand out. They are, [1] Watching; [2] Witnessing; [3] Working. As we apply them to the 21st Century Church, and to the local Church in particular, not only will we be encouraged to accomplish great things for God, but we will have eared the right to complete our title - www.local-church.org.

Another King
[A Christmas Message ]
At the coming of Christ, “another king”, the incarnation of the Living God, two thousand years ago, He was heralded with the message of peace and goodwill to all mankind, yet man seems to be further away than ever from achieving such hopes. It appears that the more men express their desire for peace and security, the less likely it becomes a reality in our modern world. Yet God has not changed! What can we do about it?

The Three Point Sermon
All through the Scriptures we will find examples - both verses and whole passages - which contain three points, nowhere more so than in the New Testament epistles. There is, however, a very interesting feature contained in these “three-pointers”, and it is this; many of them draw together the past, present and future of our Christian experience. This article explores these examples.

Our Friendly Church?
A challenging article to encourage Christians to prove God now in the matter of making sure His Church is a friendly, loving, welcoming, family church where warm Christian fellowship and a burden for souls are outstanding characteristics, and where it is definitely known locally and throughout the land as a Friendly Church.

The Light of the World
Exploring the evangelistic theme illustrating the way of salvation depicted by Holman Hunt’s well known painting, The Light of The World, which has hung in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London since 1904, this article is a short but powerful message!

Only One Place—CALVARY
[A Good Friday/Easter Message]
According to the Old Testament there was only one place in the whole world where sacrifice could be made for the atonement of sin, and that was on the Temple site. But there is a problem. That site is now occupied by an Islamic mosque, sometimes called the Mosque of Omar, but is more popularly known as the Dome of the Rock. This article explores this “problem” and seeks to answer the questions, why did God appoint, under the Old Covenant, only one place in the whole world where atonement for sin could be made? And under the New Covenant, where is that place now?

Tithing or Stewardship—Which?
This article is the result of a systematic and intensive study of the Scriptures on the subject of tithing, and it has thrown up some surprising results!

Togetherness!
From three verses found in the tenth chapter of the Epistle to the Hebrews, each verse beginning with the words, “let us!”  the implication is that whatever is to follow should be done together. It does not say, “let me” or “let you” but “let us”. How much better it is if we can do things together anyway; work together, pray together, worship together, witness together, serve the Lord together – they will all help to bring us together! This article draws out these truths from Hebrews 10:22-24.

But For One Thing!
Christianity - not a religion but a way of life - which embodies our preaching, our faith and our experience, is indeed a way set before us, made possible only because Jesus is alive, because Jesus lives within our hearts and lives, because Jesus is a living Guide through life. This article illustrates this truth from personal sources.

In Whose Name We Preach
This article first appeared in the now defunct magazine, The Life of Faith, on 31st March 1966, under the title of Unity Not Union, yet it is still as relevant to day in the Twenty First Century as it was back in the middle of the Twentieth Century!

Happy Christ-myth
There is much surrounding the Christmas story which can really can only be described as MYTH, when the message of this special season should be described as HOPE. These myths we take for granted, some sadly accept them as fact, even though, strictly speaking, they are not correct. Certain things have become a matter of tradition rather than truth. But do these inaccuracies dampen or destroy the HOPE emanating from this important event in the life of our Lord? This article seeks to answer this question.

Something Was Missing
An imaginary conversation between the three D’s—David, Daniel and Doreen—explaining the Way of Salvation in simple terms, using three selected verses from the Epistle to the Romans.

Watch Out for False Prophets!
Based on a Bible Study given in 1995, and using a Scripture quotation [Matthew 7:15] for its title, this article gives a good overview/introduction to the false teaching of Jehovah’s Witnesses—a False Prophecy Fact Sheet is also included—a valuable resource.

Does God Really Exist?
Down through the centuries there have always been those who have sought for an answer to the question posed by the title of this article. Nothing has changed. There are still those today who are searching in a Big Universe for a Big God. It may even be that, as you read this article, you are asking that very question. This article seeks to find the answer – and it does!

Twenty-first Century Disciples
When the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, it did not mean that His ministry had come to an end, nor the responsibility He had placed on the shoulders of His disciples – both then and now. In this article we seek to answer two questions. (1) What were the characteristics of these early disciples? (2) What can we learn from them for today as Twenty-first Century disciples?

If I Have Not Love
There is a phenomenon prevalent in the world today which has split countless numbers of local church congregations through many years, causing so much pain, heartache and suffering, not to mention the dishonour brought to Almighty God by such poor testimony, that an investigation into the subject of  the sign gift of “tongues”  became necessary. The result of that investigation is recorded in this very lengthy article – it is a true record of what I genuinely believe God has revealed to me through His Holy Word on this emotive subject. Even those who may disagree with its findings cannot argue with that!

The Word of God Stands Forever
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands for ever” – (Isaiah 40:8). This article is only intended to be a very brief introduction to the history of the Bible, an illustration of the fact that, with or without the help of human kind, the Word of God will indeed stand forever.

Let Us Not Be Ignorant!
The text of this article is taken from a personal Bible study of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, using the Authorised (King James) Version of the Bible – that is to say, the study was not intended to be shared with my congregation because it was personal to me. It has remained that way  all through the years until now. Why, you may ask, am I sharing this personal study with the world after nearly fifty years? I believe it may be as a result of my own bereavement. In March 2009 my dear wife, May, went to be with the Lord – we had been married for almost 57 years – and I found comfort from this study. That is probably why I am sharing it, to help anyone who is reading it who is also passing through a time of bereavement.

Lord Be My Guide
In the year 2009 one of the world’s most famous instruments for recording time celebrated 150 years of faithful service – it was Big Ben in the City of London, England. Built in 1859 the Clock Tower which houses the clock, and rises up from the north end of the Palace of Westminster (where the two Houses of Parliament meet – the Commons and the Lords)  meet. But this article is more than just an interesting account of this famous landmark – it can also trigger a call to prayer.

Giants In Our Land!
An illustrated article, originally published in The Christian Herald  in 1982, about Essex windmills with a neat little spiritual application at the end.

Jerusalem’s Golden Gate
What is so significant about the Golden Gate at Jerusalem? The answer lies in what the local guides tell the tourists! They say the gate will remain closed and will not be opened again until the Messiah comes. This article develops the theme of the return of Christ to this earth, the Christian’s blessed hope, and the significance of the Golden Gate being opened again.
This article was first published in the Autumn 1967. It is very dated, with the use of the old 35 mm transparency film slides and projector, but as the idea is still viable today as a unique way of presenting the Christmas story, and can be brought up to date using digital technology, this article may still serve a useful purpose, so it has a place in this series of articles.

In 1965 the Church where I was a Pastor celebrated its Centenary. As 1965 approached there was a natural build-up of anticipation and enthusiasm; during that year, with various events to celebrate the Anniversary, that fervour continued. But as the year came to a close the question was asked, how can we maintain the momentum? The answer came in the form of a  motif displayed at the head of the article. A very simple design of three symbols and a circle, but one that proved very successful. The 1965 momentum continued on into 1966 – and beyond. To further boost the impact of the motif I wrote four very brief articles that were published in the press on four consecutive weeks during June 1966; these form the basis of this article, with the suggestion that this motif contains the four essentials of successful Christian living, and is relevant for today.
An Alternative Government
The days of present governments – whether autocratic or democratic – are fast running out as we approach the second advent of Christ, but there is an alternative government where all nations of the world will accept and live by the word of God according to His will – a theocratic government. All who have entered the spiritual Kingdom of God through repentance and faith in Christ, acknowledging Him as Saviour and Lord, knowing their sins are forgiven, will be part of that earthly Kingdom of God with its theocratic government when Christ comes again at his second advent. This article is topical with the state of governments in today’s world.
